National Work and Family Month Workshops
In celebration of National Work and Family Month in October, OSU and the Office of Human Resources is bringing faculty and staff a variety of workshops designed to improve and integrate work and life.
Who Am I at OSU? – Living My Values at Work
Work Life Month brings special focus to who we are at work as a whole person. Our lives can feel like a 24/7 juggling act where we are choosing which thing we will “catch” first. Sometimes the choices can cause us to feel fragmented and scattered. Just as we see ourselves at OSU as One University, how can we integrate our life roles to experience ourselves as one whole person? Join us for an exploration of seeing things differently where juggling is not about constantly “catching all the balls” but learning ways to renew, replenish and feel whole so you can enjoy and be fully present in all the “places” in your life.

This presentation encourages the use of other modes of transportation in order to transform, not end, your relationship to the car. This workshop will help individuals and groups become more active in personal, political and infrastructure change. If you already use modes of transportation other than a car, learn how to increase your integration of these other modes into your life. If you rarely or never use modes other than a car, you will become connected to the personal value inherent in walking, riding a bicycle and using public transportation, and to the benefits of living in healthier communities where mobility options abound.

Family Violence and Relationship Abuse
Family and relationship violence is the physical, sexual, emotional, and/or financial abuse of one person by another person who may or may not be the traditional definition of family. This is not an age, career, or income issue. It happens across the board and reaches all types of people regardless age, income or occupations.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, more than one million people report a violent assault by an intimate partner every year in the U.S. Domestic violence costs employers nearly $727.8 million annually in lost productivity, with more than 7.9 million paid workdays lost each year. Thirty-seven percent of women who experienced domestic violence reported that the abuse had an impact on their work in the form of lateness, missed work, keeping a job, or career promotions.
“We believe we have been one of the earliest large employers in central Ohio to recognize the critical importance of this issue.” Larry Lewellen, Associate Vice President for Human Resources at The Ohio State University.
