Office of Human Resources Veteran Affairs

Core Services

MISSION: Provide quality human resource services to faculty and staff, the Office of Human Resources (OHR) supports our nation's veterans with goals to provide affirmative action assistance to covered veterans; to provide employee relations support to all faculty and staff veterans; to provide enrollment certification for student veterans participating in the GI Bill program; to serve as a focal point for all campus veteran activities; and to foster a positive campus and community atmosphere.

FACULTY/STAFF SERVICES:

  1. Provide affirmative action assistance and employee relations support to faculty/staff veterans
  2. Ensure compliance with various federal and state laws as they relate to veterans
  3. Ensure faculty/staff National Guardsman/Reservists are treated fairly in accordance with the OHR Military Leave/Reemployment Rights Policy 6.35
  4. Promote awareness, communication, education and understanding of veterans issues
  5. Plan and execute a monthly Veterans Guest Speaker program
  6. Provide training for administrators, managers and supervisors on veterans issues
  7. Encourage faculty/staff veterans to self-identify
  8. Serve as the university’s point of contact on all veterans issues and participate in outreach activities
  9. Build and maintain positive relations with various federal, state, county, local, campus and private  organizations

STUDENT SERVICES:

  1. Verify, certify and process all US Department of Veterans Affairs Educational Benefits (GI Bill)
  2. Ensure compliance with VA and Ohio Department of Education rules and regulations
  3. Counsel and assist students regarding eligibility, available benefits and application procedures
  4. Ensure student National Guardsman/Reservists are treated fairly in accordance with the university’s policy on military withdrawals/reenrollment
  5. Serve as a “Gateway to OSU” for current service members and veterans worldwide
  6. Collaborate with various campus departments and organizations on student veteran issues
  7. Provide Campus Campaign funded scholarships to eligible veteran students
