Leadership Development
Ensuring leadership excellence in key university positions, and developing and sustaining internal leadership capacity, is essential to the growth of The Ohio State University. Given the value the university places on developing strong leaders, we intersect with many university-wide initiatives and collaborate with many offices across campus. Specifically, we:
- Partner with the President’s Office in developing leaders who embody the values of the university and of a high performance culture;
- Partner with the Office of Academic Affairs in sponsoring and implementing Academic Leader Development;
- Partner with Human Resource Professionals in colleges and business units to create 90-day onboarding plans for new senior-level leaders that assimilate leaders quickly into the Ohio State culture and their specific roles;
- Partner with campus leaders and their leadership teams to strengthen individual and collective effectiveness.
Development Opportunities
The structured developmental opportunities we provide for academic and business-unit leaders include:

- Chairs Collaborating with Chairs – for department chairs interested in informal, peer problem solving and networking. These informal chair groups meet on a monthly basis to provide support and critical thinking to the challenges faced by chairs. To get connected to a chair group, contact your organization development consultant.
- PPLI – Presidents and Provost’s Leadership Institute – for tenured faculty who show the potential to move into significant leadership positions.
- Leading Edge – for senior-level staff who are nominated by their vice President and/or dean, and who are committed to strengthening their leadership abilities.
