Survivor Benefits The surviving spouse or dependent children of deceased faculty and staff may be eligible for university-provided benefits and retirement plan benefits to allow the surviving dependent to explore all available medical insurance options.

Are my dependents, spouse, or partner eligible for this benefit? This benefit is available to your eligible spouse and dependents. Same-sex domestic partners and sponsored dependents are eligible if enrolled in the medical, dental or vision plan. How/when can I sign up? The two-month extension is automatically available to surviving dependents covered by the university's medical insurance prior to your death, and does not require enrollment. Will this affect my taxes? No. When can I change my benefit elections? The two-month extension is automatically available to surviving dependents covered by the university's medical insurance prior to the employee's death, and does not require enrollment, but does require notification of the death. Have there been any recent changes to this benefit? No. What would cause this benefit coverage to end? This benefit ends two full months after the month in which the employee expires. What happens to this benefit after employee expires? Two months after the employee expires, his or her eligible dependents have the option to choose survivor continuation of coverage.
