How does The Work Number work?
You provide the verifier with The Work Number web address (www.theworknumber.com), the university name or code (10380), your Social Security number and a Salary Key if needed. The verifier calls The Work Number and gets the employment verification immediately.
Can anyone who calls get my personal information?
The verifier needs your Social Security number to view basic information like duration of time at The Ohio State University and job title. Any further information, like your salary or gross earnings, is protected by a Salary Key that only you can authorize.
What is a Salary Key and how do I get one?
A Salary Key is a six-digit code that an employee gives a verifier to authorize that verifier with one-time access to his income information on The Work Number for Everyone®.
To obtain a Salary Key, an employee logs on to epayroll at https://paperlesspay.talx.com/osu, selects income verification and follows the prompts, or calls 1-800-367-2884 and follows the prompts. If an employee is locked-out and PIN reset does not work he/she can contact The Work Number at 1-866-678-3729, enter the OSU ID number and press 0 as PIN, or contact OSU Payroll at (614) 292-2311 to unlock the account.
What types of verification are available on The Work Number?
Three types of verifications are available from The Work Number. They are proof of Employment (Employment Verification), proof of Employment and Income (Employment Plus Income Verification), and proof for Public Assistance (Social Service Verification).
How much does it cost?
There is no charge to Ohio State employees for a verification or Salary Key. There is, however, a charge to the verifier for a verification. If a verifier charges you as an Ohio State employee for a verification, please call The Work Number Client Service Center at 1-800-996-7566 with your receipt for assistance.
Is The Work Number the only way lenders can verify my employment?
Yes - written requests for verifications will not be processed and will be returned to your verifier with instructions on how to use this service.
What if my verifier will not use The Work Number?
Verifiers who will not use The Work Number will generally accept pay stubs and W-2s printed from epayroll for verification. Log onto https://paperlesspay.talx.com/osu, or phone 1-866-678-3729 for pay stubs and 1-800-367-2884 for W-2s. The OSU code is 10380. If you are locked out and PIN reset does not work, contact The Work Number at 1-866-678-3729, enter your OSU ID and press 0 as PIN, or contact Payroll at (614) 292-2311.
